Converting DivX for iTunes on Mac

I'm using a Mac(10.4.10) and would like to convert a DivX to some kind of itunes friendly format. Can I do this without the Quictime Pro reference file technique? (see here: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.p...51013124423475
Because I don't have quicktime Pro (which that technique requires) and don't have anyway to buy it.

considering it's size and limited functions, I would spend the 30$ for quicktime pro

I am sure apple would rather sell you the vids at their store than include a converter in their OS
