    Vdub freezes when encoding

I've tried capturing using different codecs, some were huffyuv, LEAD mjpeg, and uncompressed. Whenever I try to encode video to divx that is about 20 minutes, virtual dub just stops in the middle. The system isn't frozen, it just says 0 fps for processing speed. It seems like all the other programs just stops at this point and encodes the first part of the file. Also, I always seem to drop 2 frames in my capture for no reason. The cpu usage can be no more than 10%, but it still drops 1 or 2 frames. Can this cause the encoding problem?

Also, I tried encoding with the Microsoft mpeg-4 codec, but I got the same error. It has to be a problem with the capture then, right?

maybe your OS needs repairing or the codecs need to be installed again

to test is its the capture use a different app to encode eg DVDx or Fair Use

if it works then theirs something wrong with vdub or it cannot just handle the file. try nandub

I've tried using other programs, and even if I try to extract the audio, I get the same problem as above. As I said, in programs besides virtual dub, it stops capturing at the same point, but instead of freezing, it says it's finished. Also, I have completely reinstalled the operating system, codecs, programs, and everything.

then the problem is their is either an error in the audio/video stream. to check:

          1) test the video - just encode the video in vdub (select no audio)

of it works then it must be the audio. if it doesn't then it could be both. then check the audio. once you know which one it is you have to find a way of repairing it.

i know vdub can scan video stream for errors

if you cant a suitable app, put another post up.

I think I solved my problem. I figured out that vdub would freeze only when compressing the audio. I installed the lame mp3 codec, and now it seems to work fine.

It turns out that I never fixed anything. The only reason it was working after I installed lame was because I was using the vbr setting. Then, of course, this created a different problem. The audio would randomly fall out of sync. So I can't use vbr or cbr with virtual dub. I tried using nandub, but it won't process the audio. It starts with 24kb of audio data, then stops. When I play the resulting file, it doesn't read any audio stream. File information says there is a stream, but there aren't any audio frames. I am encoding with direct stream video through nandub.

Can anyone help me compress audio with cbr mp3 compression using virtual dub? I've tried a few codecs, but it always freezes.

It seems that there's something wrong with your audistream. Try to use something like cooledit or something to fix it and see if it works.
