Converting Mpg to Divx

I got this mpg file that is 44 mb I recently tried to recompess it into Divx format using 3.11 and I resized it. And when I checked to see what the size was it was still 44 mb. can anyone tell me on how to convert the file right so it won't be a 44 mb file?

Assuming you've properly done your video compression procedures, you need to compress the sound stream into MP3 as well. Go to Audio Tab -> Compression -> Slect the MP3 codec and choose the bitrate (Try not to go below 56 or 64 kbps, as it will affect synch.) -> and then re-save the file.
