    Need CODEC help

I'm an old timer and not that computer literate, so bear with me.

I'm running the latest updates for Windows (home) XP, and the Windows Media player is the latest V 11.0.5721.5145.

I ran into a problem when trying to play an AVI file from my new surveillance camera system which converts it's own file type to AVI. I've had no previous problems with AVI files that I can remember.

I finally did see a message stating I “could be” missing an XVID CODEC---and here I am having no idea what I need – or need to do.

Many thanks for some help. Pappy44

    Welcome to the forum.

If the error message is correct, then you're missing the Xvid codec, which can be downloaded here:

Xvid Codec 1.3.2 <- Xvid Codec Downloads | Software - Digital Digest

It's a simple installer, so download it, run it and it should install what's required to view the AVI file. If not, let me know so I can provide further instructions on how to get the file to play.
