Huffy to DivX In Gordian Knot Quality ?

Well, the subject may not be very helpful so this is what I want :

I converted my first DVD to DivX 5.02 Pro using Gordian Knot and UncasMS guide (thanks a lot for such a helpful guide Uncas... I believe that if the guide included Subtitle instructions, it would be the best guide around).

Anyways, the output quality was ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR !!! I was amazed when I saw the output video.

What I want to do now is convert my captured VHS movies to DivX as well, hoping for the same quality as when using Gordian Knot. I believe that Gordian Knot cannot handle Huffy avi (the format in which I capture) so I would like to know how I will be able to achieve the hi-quality of Gordian Knot encoding when encoding from Huffy to DivX...

Any help would be much appreciated...

P.S. : The guide regarding this issue in divx-digest was dead (404).

    Just use virtualdub/nandub directly.

But the problem with captured content is that it contain lots more video noise, than a DVD, which makes compression a lot harder.

I belive the the best noise filters are Jim Casaburi's 2dCleaner and Temporal Cleaner.

I am using qa Matrox Marvel G450eTV and I am capturing with VDub at 704x576 Uncompressed (YUY2).

I did a lot of attempts when encoding from VHS to DivX and VCD...

At first, the DivX quality was crap, even at 2000 kbps !!! Then I applied the resize filter of VDub (Precise Bicubic) and downscaled the picture to 640x 524... The output DivX file was EXCELLENT !!! I would never imagine that resizing is so important and could make such a difference in quality...

I guess that if I use VDub to rescale to VCD spex (352x288) before frameserving to TMPGEnc, the quality of my VCDs will be perfect... Looks like VDub's precise bicubic is the best resize filter out there...
