Im new @ this! How do u turn DVD ->DIVX

I want to backup my own DVD's into my computer. So I use smartripper to rip the dvd into my hard drive.

So I use XMPEG to turn it into a DIVX. But the movie uses more then one VOB file so how do I make the output file using all the VOB files at once?

I also want it to be only 1gb big in tottal so anyone know what settings I should use? My movies are like 1.5hrs - 2.5hrs.

Im basically following the guyz @ divx-digest but the guid will have the xmpeg make a huge avi file only using the first VOB.

To begin with... even if you're a n00b (doesn't mean anything bad with that) you should start with GordianKnot. It'll work when you have learned it... and it'll work great... really great...
If you want to use divx 3.11 and GK you can read my guide but if you want to use 5.0.2 go to http://gknot.doom9.org and choose any guide you like

Another program that I've ran across is AutoDivx5. I would suggest Gordians-Knot or it.. Everything you need to know is @ www.doom9.net under his guides. I've never heard much good about Flask so I never tried it. But for a noob definately start out @ Doom9.

why not make it 700 megs so you can fit it in one cd or 1.4 gigs so you can fit it in 2?

XMPEG 4.xx has the option of opening the .ifo file from a DVD. If you're opening a .VOB file instead, that'll do. If not, download XMPEG 4.31 and it should do it
