How do I convert a MPEG movie?

I downloaded a MPEG and only the first 60 seconds will play. According to WMP properties it is using a Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec V3. I can’t open it in VDub or xmpeg and if I try to convert it with the TMPG prog the result is really choppy. It has a few characteristics of a streaming video like the way it won’t let me scroll forward. Anyone know what to do?

Install the MS MPEG4 V3 codec from a codec pack, like Nimo or Tsunami. That should, at least, allow you to open the video in Virtualdub.

Can you go to File -> File Information and post what is displayed here? That way, we can examine the video file in more details.

I wish I could but I still cant open the file in VDub it thinks it is a ASF. WMP Wont give me info either but it does say MPEG as the file type. I have no idea whats going on.

And you have the MS MPEG4 V3 codec installed? Have you tried playing the file in a DVD player software, just in case it is an MPEG-2 file?

I have the codec installed and it still doesent work. I have tryed playing the file in power DVD and I still only will play the first 60 sec. I do have other file that have this problem but they will play to the end.
