XviD; what's "packed bitstream"?

Hey all.

I'm trying to convert XviD to XviD (with permanent subtitles, that's why the conversion is needed). But, whenever I do that with a certain file, the output file, which is also XviD, becomes "slow". I opened the original file in GSpot, looked over, and it said something about "packed bitstream". I googled it, and I saw it mentioned in the Doom9 forums. In some topic they said it could cause something like "one-frame lag", and it would make it harder (i.e, slower) for different programs to seek in that video file. Could that be what is causing the "slow motion"?

Here is a screenshot from GSpot with that file opened. Anything "suspicious"? Should I change anything in the XviD's configuration to make my video progress normally?

I tried AVIRecomp, but... same thing happend with that too. So, maybe I should change the XviD's configuration or something... no?

Packed bitstream means no frame lag and easier seeking for VfW. Packed bitstream was created as a hack for encoding/decoding bframes via VfW. Your problem should have nothing to do with packed bitstream. If you want though MPEG4Modifier can unpack it.

If unpacking the packed bitstream with MPEG4 Modifier as suggested by celtic_druid doesn't help, please try to fix your AVI with DivFix which helps rebuild the index causing stream writing error. Download it from here and please let us know the result. Good luck
