DVD to iPod

Dont know if this is the right forum, but Im trying to convert one of my own personal DVD's so that I can watch it on my new iPod. Can this be done with any of the current free software (Shrink/Ripit4me, DVDfab etc) available or am I going to have to go spend some more money?? LOL

I worry about purchasing software because the commercial brands (DVDXCopy is a good example) do not seem to stay as "up to date" as the freeware...

I know Nero and DVD Rebuilder Pro will do it.Or you can look here
