How to maintain aspect ratio with avi to ipod encoders?

Seems that every avi to ipod encoder I have looked at does not have an option to maintain AR of the source file. For example if the source is 720x407 (AR is 1.77:1) I would to like to maintain this AR and not be forced to use 320x240 (1.33:1). Why can't I do 320x180 to maintain the AR?

Are there any free encoders out there that allows for this? Thank you.
