What to use for WMV conversion?

Sorry, but I'm a little lost. All I want to do is convert some .wmv files that were legally obtained and are not copy-protected. I want to play them on my home theater DVD player (OPPO). I first tried SUPER and had little to no luck with it. My next attempt was with FAVC and I followed the "FAVC to DVD Guide" step-by-step. When it was time to generate the DVD, however, FAVC said that it couldn't do it and that I probably had an older version of AviSynth. I then downloaded AviSynth 2.7 but FAVC is still unable to process the file. I have no idea how to create an AviSynth script and I'm not sure what "frameserving" from VirtualDub to FAVC means.

Is there an easier way for me to this? I'm only trying to put 1 20-minute video onto a DVD. Thank you for any guidance.

I've been able to put together slide shows with MS movie maker that outputs a.WMV file then convert to DVD with dvdflick

Thanks. I had looked at DVD Flick's site earlier but wasn't sure what to make of it (can you tell that I am verrry new to this topic?!). So, DVD Flick is a tool for authoring that contains a burner? Does ImgBurn have authoring capabilities? Microsoft's Movie Maker can then convert the wmv file to "High quality video (NTSC)" that can be played on my home theater player (sorry, I'm kind of thinking "out loud" here)? That looks like the most straightforward process, for me at least.

If u ask me then I would suggest u to go for Avisynth. Once u have learned it, u will be able to solve all of your encoding problems.
