    broadcasting H.264 encoded video

Currently, I am encoding my DV videos from the home camcorder into H.264 using the x264 encoder. The encoded video a 3700kbps is indistuingishable from the original, except for some lack of detail in the still frame, which becomes invisible, once in motion.

Now, I am wondering what will happen should I give these footages to the TV stations for broadcast. They say that the broadcast process is so lossy that only the original DV is acceptable. I wonder why this is so, since the processes are all in digital nowadays. Also, what will happen to my x264 video once it runs through the standard process at the studio. Color saturation? compression artifacts? Does anyone have any experience?
