.mkv conversion for xbox360 streaming?

I don't know if this is the right thread to put this in but here goes. i'm trying to convert .mkv files to mp4 or whatever file that can be read by the xbox 360 and still maintain video quality. here's what i did and it worked once but i can't get it to work again. I use both Quicktime Pro and Connect360. I loaded the .mkv into Quicktime pro then followed this guide:

However the xbox still wouldn't play the mp4, i just got a black screen. So i decided to save it as .mov. i then found out that the xbox360 won't play anything over 4 GB so i just trimmed the end credits off of the .mov and ended up with a 3.95 HD .mov that i could stream with Connect360. there was no quality loss at all and if there was it wasn't noticeable. But now i've tried the same thing with another .mkv file and it won't work. it seems that this is not consistent. Both files even have the same format (AAC stereo, 48 khz, H.264) the only thing that is different is that the one that works is 1280x544 and the one that doesn't is 1280x688. but that shouldn't matter should it? Does anyone know why this could not be working? it's really bugging me!

Who/Where did you get the info that the 360 won't stream anything over 4gb?? I think that has to do with your HDD rather than the 360.

The xbox 360 video playback FAQ states that it will not play anything over 4 GB.

Hi, just joined the forum and this is the first thread ive read, I am in the process of the whole streaming to 360 so am pretty clueless but I just wanted to let you know that I am streaming well over 4 gig, (8-14 at mo) more importantly for me is that its full AC3 5.1/DTS. The file format must be WMV and I am using WMP11. Hope this info is usefull...

There are so many limits, on different consoles, that I can't really remember which is which. But for both the Xbox 360 and PS3, I think there are file constraints in relation to MP4 files. But if you use TVersity for streaming, it might overcome certain problems.
