Quantisation parameter of H.264

Hello All,

I wanted know is there any limitation for Quantization parameter in h.264.
i am asking because i increase my QP vlaue beyond 47 which was set earlier by standard to get more reduction in bitrate. but my luma has gone for worse.

So thats why i am asking is there any limitation and what is it?
