The problem:
Captured AVI playback on a WD 180g is garbled. However, when I move the AVI files to either of my other two hard drives (both 60g Maxtors) the AVI files play fine.
The PC:
P4 3.06
Asus P4G8x Deluxe
ATI All-In-Wonder 9700 Pro
1 Gig RAM
2 Maxtor 60 Gigs
1 WD 180 Gig
The history:
This happened when I first had this computer built (January/February of 2003). The OS I first installed was Windows 2000. I could not solve the AVI playback at that time, so I switched to Windows XP and everything worked from that point on. Since then, I've created probably over 50 hours of finish footage without experiencing this problem again.
I recently figured it was time to reinstall everything. I even used Win XP again. Bad move. Now I have this problem again. Weird, and infuriating.
The files play fine on the 60 gigs, but they are garbled without sound on the WD 180 gig.
Suggestions?
