I'm going to convert some programs I've recorded on a dvd recorder to divx files. The programs record Dolby Digital 2 channel sound.
I used to use the following bitrates which gave me around 10mb per minute.
video: 1250kbps
audio: 128kbps mp3
I've now decided to convert the sound to 5.1 and use the following bitrates:
video: 1250kbps
audio: 256kbps ac3 or 320kbps ac3.
I will use the aud-x codec for sound encoding.
I will be playing the divx files on a 42" TV and 5.1 speakers.
Should I stick to the mp3 avi files which look really good and sound good or should I use the ac3 avi files which look and sound really good? In other words, do I try to fix something that isn't broken?
Should I use 256kbps which gives me 11.1mb per minute or 320kbps gives me 11.6mb per minute. Can you really hear the difference between 256kbps and 320kbps (or even lower sound)?
Should I use a lower video bitrate and up the sound bitrate? Anything under 12mb per minute is OK because I can fit 6 or so hours per dvd.
Any help is appreciated!
