    Digital Video With No Sound!

    Hello!
I am really trying to help my sister out with a digital movie(.WMV) taken with her digital video camera. The movie plays fine including audio when previewed on the camera.
She uses a usb/firewire to transfer the movies to her computer and then usually uses windows movie maker. Well for some reason this file in WMM or Not will play, but there is NO audio. I guess pretty much any movie she uploads now does not play the audio once it's on the computer. I had her send me a recent short movie and when opened on my computer(I use Windows Media Player)it will play , but again, no audio. I imported in WMMaker and it too will not play the audio.
When imported into Gspot it says that the status of the audio codec is undetermined, but the codec that is being used is:0x0161 (WMA v2), in the INFO box it says:0x01:44100Hz 64 kb/s tot (2 chnls). I also downloaded SHERLOCK(Codec Detective) but I'm not really sure what I can do with it. It just lists the codecs on my pc. I downloaded Nandub but it will not let me open up the movie, saying that it's a windows file and it doesn't have access. She uses Windows XP with service pack 3. I'm not sure what we should do. I even have FFDShow on my computer and it still wont play the audio. Should I have her start downloading certain audio codec packs? Any Ideas?

    Hi Pree,

Try installing this Codec Pack http://www.xpcodecpack.com/

I myself running Vista OS ... so I use Vista Codec Pack. But usually Audio or Video playback issues are caused by lack of correct Codecs as you have suspected.

Post back your results please ... so the next person can benefit from your experience.

    G!

Well, I really do appreciate the reply, but unfortunately it did not do the trick! Still no sound. UGH! This is very odd.

Does anyone know what it is I can do with the FFDShow Audio Decoder? I have never used it for anything. I open it and there is a ton of different options.

Yes, thanks so much for looking into this. This is so odd! Here is 35 seconds of the exact file in question. This is a .rar file. Please let me know if this is a problem?

Haha, I'm sorry guys! I think we finally figured it out! She didn't see her firewire port on her camera this whole time! She was using a usb cable for over a year now, which is odd. It was hard, because I am 3000 miles away and had to help over instant message. Thanks so much for your time!
