    Home made BD over DVD?

I know this is possible, but I don't know how to do it.

What I'm talking about is taking 1080p video (or any video really), and authoring a Blu-Ray Disc file structure, that can be burned on a DVD. I'm obviously not talking full length movies... but short things that might only be 4-5GB on a BD anyway.

I've seen some of these (even WITH full movies) that were fan-made, and they look just as good as official studio Blu-Rays.

Basically, I have some high definition stuff... either 1080p movie trailers from Apple, or 1080i/720p TV rips I've made using my TV tuner and an antenna. Obviously I can play them on my computer, but at 19" monitor, I mayaswell just download the 480p versions.

Now, the Apple trailers are already in 1080p, they're MOV format. (Though many are 2.35:1, not "hard matted" to 16:9).

Anyone know what software can do this? Kinda like the MuxMan of Blu-Ray? I know the PS3 will play home made discs like that. (And since BD can have 720p/1080i, I figure for my HDTV rips it would probably be better if I kept them in their native format, rather than trying software upscaling/deinterlacing.)

I don't know about BD format but I'd be curious to see an HD divx player in action. It says in the spec that an HD Divx player will play high def divx file off an ordinary DVD5. There don't seem to be many around at < $200 though. Seems like if you could convert to an hd divx you'd get the most bang per buck space-wise.. providing you could afford the player.

      @drfsupercenter

Its done all the time, but you can't mention how to do it on this forum.

      General procedures

      1. If your movie is in standard defination, the best way to convert to 1080p is to leave it at standard defination and upscale to 1080p with an upscale DVD player. Built on DVD+R disks DVD-5 or DVD-9

      2. If your movie only or Blu-ray disk is already high defination at 1080P there are quite a few software programs out to build your homemade compliant Blu-ray sturcture on BD-5, BD-9, BD-R and BD-RE. Movie only or just certain parts of the Blu-ray structure. With or without compression and video quality same as the source disk, and bitrate same as the source disk. With todays standards you can also re-encode a Blu-ray sturcture to fit on any blank media you want, and build a BD-ROM disk with + plus type blank media.

Wait, why can't you mention it?

Considering that I'm talking about legally obtained material, it wouldn't be in violation of rule 6... and since when does authoring DVDs/Blu-Rays have anything to do with decryption?

None of my stuff is in Blu-Ray format. A lot of it is already 1080p, but it's .mov... whatever codec Apple uses. My recorded shows are recorded as "title streams"... basically a 1:1 exact copy of the stream that goes out over the air. Again, not sure what format that's in.

Because the programs alluded to are prohibited to be discussed under rule 19.

... as is the discussion of tools that can be used for decryption/ripping (eg. DVD Shrink, FixVTS ...)
So, even if a tool is not being used for ripping (as is your case), we still can't discuss it, because it "can" be used to rip DVDs (in fact, the tools Ed is referring to are primarily used to rip DVDs).

            Oh, wow, that sucks.

They need to make a "forum friendly" version then that can't decrypt anything! LOL

Anyway, I found a guide... I'll see if I can figure it out.

But Blu-Ray file structure sure looks more complex than VIDEO_TS... at least for now.

I suppose a better question would be, can my PS3 play my high definition files just by converting them to whatever format... rather than me trying to make actual discs. I stuck some on my flash drive as a test but it said "no files" when I attempted to load a list.

This thread sort of died but if you find out anything more about DivxHD or playing HD stuff without having to do all that massive BD conversion please post the info. I have to figure DivxHD players should start to get cheap soon(maybe they'll play other formats too but it's a pain to convert a video just because the vertical res is 720.)

depending on the input but can you not directly author to AVCHD, which most blu-ray player fine?
