Merged your threads into a single one. To answer your questions:
1. Yes, all Blu-ray players play DVDs.
2. Assuming you're talking about the US market, Blu-ray movies are around $15-$25 for new release (on Amazon), $10-15 for older releases. Blu-ray players vary, but below $150 for a basic standalone player, and around $250 for one with more features like Wi-Fi media streaming.
3. You can get a DVD player for under $50 at more stores, so Blu-ray players are still a bit more expensive right now, but give it until the end of the year for further price drops, and I can see stores stop selling DVD players altogether because Blu-ray ones are only a tiny bit more expensive (and since they all play DVDs, it means stores can stock fewer items).Comment

In many case you will have a better picture quality even from dvds played on a blu-ray player because the scaler in most dvd players is poor/not existent
only dvd player in rather higher price ranges provide a similar picture but they may easily cost the same as you will have to spent on a BD playerComment

I don't think DVD will go away for quite awhile. You can still get VCRs and audio cassette decks and blank tape cartridges. Plus outfits like Divx are doing "Divx Plus" which is MKV format video. A DVD5 with an .mkv on it should look pretty good on videos 2 hours or less.
The thing I see the need for is cheap horsepower. I can compress a 20 GB .mkv down to 4 or 5 GB that still looks damn good. I just don't want to spend 12 hours doing it. We need PCs with dual OctoCore CPUs for $500 with BluRay burners standard!!Comment

Yes, a blu-ray player will play DVD. I also agree with the admin that soon DVD players will not be sold. Many people think they still will since vcr is still sold. But the difference is a video tape couldnt be played on a CD player so they was still a purpose of selling VCR since so many people had video tape collections. But a DVD CD can be played on a blu ray so there would not be much of a point in still producing DVD. Completely different from VRC to DVD situationComment

I have a big problem:
I won a gift Bluray Disc DVD Player Mod BDP-S570/BX57 Sony, this player came from the U.S., where the area code is 1, but I live in Brazil and the area code is 4, therefore does not play DVDs
I would like information on how to unlock this device, Sony Brazil do not do this release, do not find that communicate to it.
Wonder: What can you help me?

There's this tip listed here:
Sony BDP-S570 region code - VideoHelp.com
But not only do you need to buy a special type of universal remote, apparently, it may not work on the US version of the model (although some say it works).Comment
