ok problem solved, apparently the driver for my video card was incorrect (i went to dell found a "new" one although it is an older version than the one i had) either way no more error .

with pat enabled you would see faster transcoding

and the benchmarks listed ineverest i see a bunch of computers listed how do i use this?

hit the little refresh button at top(2 arrows) after selecting a bench
don't multitask!
btw I have an extra 512 megs(2x 256) of premium cas 2 memory I can't stick in any computer without slowing it down, running 4 sticks, except my 333
fsb ones.
I took a big chance with the beast and ordered 2 sticks of 500mghz ram,
I couldn't find it available in a pair. It worked.

well you're crippling the cpu by having to work it's butt off compressing extra junk, lose the crap and just reauthor main movie only, dump DA and AEC
for compression above 80%.
it said i was in dual channel each time and all of these numbers seem way too close for me to have any faith in this program (unless im doing it wrong) all i did was hit the refresh button and my computer stats appeared in bold. i did it severeal times both selecting a bench (highlighting it) and not. all results were in the same area (+- a few MB)
Also while i still had the 2 256 mods in i ran DVDshrink with casino on same settings as i did with 1.5G in my computer and the speed was the same approx 2.1MB/ sec encoding speed.
the main difference i noticed was before (with alll the RAM sticks in) i was able to run photoshop, 2+ browsers, and converrt a .wav > .flac with relative ease (minor slowdown) however with only the 2 256 mods in, i could barely open photoshop (took forever) as did opening firefox, the wav > flac went easily
So i am thinking:
1. I should leave all the modules in (everything i have used verifies I am in dual mode).
2. Accept that DVDShrink won't go much faster than it is already
3. Adding RAM did increase my ability to use my computer while encoding, although ecoding time will not be decreased.
4. Everest benchmark test is flawed
do you agree with these conclusions???

Well Dr, you started with a very good scientific methodology.
Your mem benches show what I was afaid of tho, a 20% performance
drop in mem writes.
You state a comparison between the 1.5 gig setup and the 512 one?
Where's the 1 gig?
Take this to the next level, you are doing an excellent job so far, start shrink transcoding, do a reasonable amount of
multitasking w/ photoshop and watch memory in use in task manager
and pages, the only way you know whether the dual 256 meg sticks
are helping at all. Note windows will always keep a little ram free
in reserve.

yes, but that multitasking will prolong encoding with shrink which I thought was not in the scenario.
I seriously doubt everest is flawed, sisoft sandra has memory benches also.
There's a guy in germany who got me to using it, it was essential to my
overclocking the beast.
since my last post i have begun running multitasks and watching in task manager
(with all 4 stick in my computer)
example i am running 4 Bit torrent windows and ran virus scan and a spyware at the same time
my CPU usage was 100% with avaliable memory of 5 gig (the lowest avalaible)
and i did an online scan drom dell at the same time which verified 32% avaliable memory.
like i said every application i have run verifies i am in dual mode (with 1.5) i just think DVDshrink is being limited by something other than my RAM.
lets face it I am running 1.5Gig in dual mode on a pentium 4 2.6, the only things in my taskbar are virus scan spyware scan and my remote mouse. so like I and anonymez say, accept that DVDshrink will not encode faster than 2.2MB/sec, BUT by adding the RAM i can now run multiple applications while encoding, whereas before while encodeing (unless i ran in background in low priority mode) my computer was pretty much useless. Plus i am sure that now while burning a DVD/ CD I can continued to use my computer normally, whereas before i would not use the computer during a burn. (i'll test this when have something to burn)
as for the dual channel mode controvesy, I am sure that if all 4 sticks had to match there would be more clearly stated facts to that, that is not a topic that would be kept vague. The only important fact i keep seeing regarding dual channel is that the pair on the same channel must be identical.
check out this PDF i found before i purchased my RAM which in addition to a tech over at crucial.com (where i bought my RAM) convinced me that i can have different sticks in matching pairs that would still produce dual channel.
Now all sources DO state that the mHz of all 4 sticks MUST be the same or the lower number will be used (all 4 of mine are 400/ 3200)
