Low Priority mode is in the Shrink Preferences.

More RAM is always better. Shrink likes 512MB to be comfortable. It will work fiine with 256MB but 512MB is best.

As Shrink likes processor power, the more the better and it will run at 100%.

Some things that can stop Shrink from crashing the computer.

Disable Nero and use DVD Decrypter
    Turn off Video Preview.

I've only reached the encoding phase once anyhow. I ripped an ARccOS dvd with the wizard, at the end of the process it asked if I wanted to open up the folder in Shrink. I said yes... it did, and I started the encoding that way.
Rather than upgrade a older computer. It is probably better and easier to buy a new box and use the current monitor, keyboard etc.
That is fine. I just did my first Arcoss and did the same thing. It will quick analyse the files then show Shrink.

I looked into updating the firmware of the burner. This is model GSA-4166B.

      I see a GSA-4162B, GSA-4163B, GSA-4165B, GSA-4167B

I don't however, see mine. Does this mean there is no update?

That's still expensive... I think I can update the RAM for about $100 or so, and my parents are willing to do that. Pentium 4 - 1.89 GHz, 80 GB HDD... not the best, but it's doable.

The system is fine for them, they don't do big stuff. As a matter of fact, this is the first biggest project they've EVER tried to take on.

I'm uninstalling all nero now. I'll have to learn how to do the decrypter writing, but it shouldn't be a problem whatsoever.

The box for the burner says that in order to use LightScribe, I have to do it through Nero. Are they lying to me? I don't want to have a huge program installed simply to just take on LightScribe... but the folks would like to use this feature.

nero info tool would have told you, but imgburn will also, no rush tho
that drive is so new! firmware revision?

from brother vlad 4 days ago "We've done some analysis of the 4166 1.00 and 1.01 firmware and they look to be patchable. Need to understand the flashing process"

just buy some good media, it will be a better drive as firmware matures.
too new to update unless you are using 1.00

Yeah I bought it yesterday, Best Buy's weekly special. I also picked up Verbatim disks, so I should be fine there.

I'm now doing creating an ISO to burn with DVDd...

The Encoding again says... 4 hours! any explanation of this on a brand new burner? That probably has nothing to do with the burner now does it?

I'm checking the prices now of RAM and I'm about to go pick some up. That should help correct?

Wow, I didn't realize RDRAM was so expensive. Oh well, it's worth it. So if I get another 256, updating my RAM to 512... that should work?

they come in matched pairs if I can rememeber that long ago,
make sure you have slots open
ImgBurn, the updated dvdd burn engine would be a safer bet for that
                    new a burner.

OK I found something on ebay that will probably suit this right. Seems to be the best deal as well. I realize that the RAMBUS RAM has to come in pairs... but what I didn't know is that I have to have open slots. What I am going to bid on is 1G 2 x 512MB of RAM. I have to 2 x 128MB of RAM in there. Can I pull out the 2 sticks of RAM in there and just plug in the new ones? If so I'm going to sell the old RAM on eBay to try and make up some of the cost. I didn't realize how rare the RDRAM was.

Do you think this is a good buy? Also do you think this will fix the problem? It's an expensive risk otherwise. I'd like to be certain that this route has healing powers. It will still be running with my motherboard, so let me know before I bid.

Here is the link on eBay...

just open it up and look inside, if there are more slots(usually 4). it will be obvious, another 256 would be plenty.

                        240$ way to high

another idea, try a burn with imgburn and see if your speed increases

That's for a gig though. There are 4 slots... all are taken up... 2 of the 128s (Samsung) are inside... then there are two tiny sticks made by DELL, I can't tell what they are, it doesn't say. I can't tell if they are fake or what they are. I know the system only has 256 of RAM in the thing, so I have no clue what these other two sticks are...

Dell is trying to sell 512 on their site for $270... this auction is double that and is less in price? That's too high? Can you offer a better place to buy from?

I'm pretty sure the little sticks that I found are just in there to maybe keep the circuit running? They seriously look like they do nothing, just preserving two expansion slots...

So tell me this... If I just buy 512 RAM (2 x 256) can I leave the 2 128s in there and put in 2 256's in the other 2 slots... thus giving me 768?
