Low Priority mode is in the Shrink Preferences.
More RAM is always better. Shrink likes 512MB to be comfortable. It will work fiine with 256MB but 512MB is best.
As Shrink likes processor power, the more the better and it will run at 100%.
Some things that can stop Shrink from crashing the computer.
Disable Nero and use DVD Decrypter
Turn off Video Preview.
Rather than upgrade a older computer. It is probably better and easier to buy a new box and use the current monitor, keyboard etc.
That is fine. I just did my first Arcoss and did the same thing. It will quick analyse the files then show Shrink.

I've only reached the encoding phase once anyhow. I ripped an ARccOS dvd with the wizard, at the end of the process it asked if I wanted to open up the folder in Shrink. I said yes... it did, and I started the encoding that way.
