maybe a dumb couple of questions with a clean install, I would use my back up disks that I made when I first got my system right?
If your computer had been set up by a power user, it would have been partitioned into a system/program partition and a data partition,
another argument for a second hard drive.

Since hard drives have been known to die, don't ever trust everything
on one drive. Back it up somewhere.

Ok so really it would be a speed issue...hmmm something to think about.. right now using shrink takes me approx 30min or so (depending on the movie) if I am making a second back up using dvdd it only takes abou 15 to 20 but If I can make it even faster then that that would be cool...any recommondations on what kinda of drive I should get?

So it would be a speed issue..as it is right now when I do a movie with shrink it takes about 30 minutes give or take...when I am making a 2nd back up with dvdd it takes about 20min...so what kind of 2nd harddrive would you recommond?

that would depend upon your drive configuration

you will not be able to cut down transcoding time by 1/3 simply with another hdd that's for sure

so pls dont expect to rapidly increase your performance

With no compression I would expect more than 30%, but the extra room
is also useful. At a high compression you might see no improvement.
There's something inherently wrong with creating a 4.5 gig file from
a 7-8 gig set of files on the same hard drive. Too much head movement?

Yeah I am happy with the speed I get but I should do a back up I know..again I am kinda a 'noob' so you say I should back up somewhere...what do you mean by somewhere? Can't I just use disc's? or should I do an online back up? Sorry for the dumb questions

poweruser dont use systems with one drive only

i cant even remember when i had any of my drives partioned

not even cluster size is an issue any more with ntfs operating systems that handle multimedia decently
