Help with HP Computer!

Hey, my mom's computer got spyware so I did what I could. I used that HP Recovery thing, and it did nothing. So, I used my XP CD to wipe the drive. The problem: In doing so, I deleted the HP Recovery program that I need to restore Windows (obviously I did not activate Windows since I can't).

I called HP, but it's out of warranty so they won't help me. I was just wondering what I should do.

Does anyone have an HP Pavilion PC that could find that HP Recovery program and ZIP it for me?

By law every manufacturer is supposed to supply you with cd's or the means to reinstall your copy of windows, many do it different ways.
In your case I would simply say my computer is off warranty and the hard drive crashed, what are you going to charge me for a set of recovery cd's for
this computer. They took the shortcut and the fee sould be nominal.

or asked for help before erasing her computer.

Danny: in Windows Explorer there is just one folder that has nothing in it, but yet the drive is full.
Danny: When reformatting my hard drive, I only wiped the C drive, and did not touch the recovery one.

Pat K: Danny, I am sorry. The recovery files are in the D: drive. However, it is not possible to use them. Some programs related to recovery are stored in C: drive. When you formatted the c: drive, these files were deleted.
Danny: What is the solution then, buying a recovery CD?
Pat K: Yes Danny.
Danny: I noticed those run for $12, is that all shipping costs?
Pat K: No, the shipping and handling cost are extra. The total cost comes to around $25.

bit late but u can always install with ur mothers computer cdkey and activate it. its legal that way.
u can search for the drivers at hp then.

Now this is going to sound cheap but I know it works because I actually did it. I recently upgraded my Hard drive to a bigger one, so I needed the discs. I called up support and told them my comp crashed and I replaced the hard drive and needed the replacment discs. They told me the same as you that I'm out of warranty and that I'd have to pay for it. I told them that I couldnt afford that because I just got my computer back from an HP recommended supplier and they charged me 200.00 and made my computer worse. They sent the discs out to me for free. (most of the story is true. I did send out my comp to get serviced and it did get messed up by them)

Not only would I use the CD Key that should be printed on a label attached to the computers case.... but the activation screen that comes up offers a way to call Microsoft on the phone and activate that way. Since the computer was purchased through HP the license for the software is legit. MS shouldn't have any issues with giving you an over-the-phone activation.

This happened to me once,
I had a pc built by Milwaukee pc, they gave me no disc with my system and when the system crashed and it was no longer under warranty, mil. pc said bring it in we will reinstall windows for $65.00. WOW
I reported them to Microsoft and 2 days later Mil. pc called me and said come and pick up your cd, no charge.

I have called MS to get an original Windows CD, I explained that I never recevied one thru HP for my laptop, just their stupid recovery CD, and MS shipped out one free of charge.

You don't need to activate it - it's OEM.

u sure need to activate oem aswell if ur doing fresh install.
recovery is other story, its like sort of ghost image that is already activated.
