    750 Gb Hd!

i just seen this today, amazing how fast computer technology advances.

SEAGATE EXPANDS DESKTOP HARD DRIVE LEAD WITH 750GB MONSTER BUILT ON PERPENDICULAR RECORDING TECHNOLOGY

With the introduction of Barracuda 7200.10 family, Seagate now leverages perpendicular recording technology across its desktop, notebook, enterprise, consumer electronics and retail hard drives

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif.—26 April 2006— Seagate Technology (NYSE:STX), the world's number one hard drive maker, today surged to new levels of areal density and storage capacity leadership with the introduction of the world's first desktop hard drive to hit the 750GB capacity mark. The monster drive is part of the new Barracuda 7200.10 family built on perpendicular recording technology to meet the growing storage capacity, performance and reliability requirements of desktop computers and low-end servers.
Seagate helps the world store more data and harness its potential with breakthrough cloud storage services, systems, hard drives, solid state drives, and end-to-end data management solutions.

It would be a huge bummer if that crashed!
"Wanted in 14 counties of this state. The condemned is found guilty of the crimes of murder, armed robbery of citizens, state banks and post offices, the theft of sacred objects, arson in a state prison, purgery, bigamy, deserting his wife and children, inciting prostitution, kidnapping, extortion, receiving stolen goods, selling stolen goods, passing counterfeit money, and contrary to the laws of this state, the condemned is guilty of using marked cards...therefore according to the powers vested in us, we sentence the accused here before us Tuco Benedicto Pacifico Juan Ramirez also known as the Rat and any other aliases he may have to hang by the neck until dead."

I'd hate to defrag it if it were full....or half full even.

Aren't Western Digitals better? Someone told me that Seagates aren't too good, but I could always give them a try LOL (kinda like how CMCs suck but yet they play just fine on all the players in my house)

Hmmmm, if I just knew where to store the 160 DvD5's I need to back it up.

The real funny part is you know someone somewhere soon will have 2 of them in a home desktop.

Western Digital is cheap crap. I will never buy another one again.

Hard disks are not made well at the moment compared to years ago. I still have hard disk working from 1998. Since then I have gone through 3 Western Digitals, 1 Seagate and 1 IBM Deskstar.

I curently use three Maxtors (still cheap but better than WD) and one Seagate. I am hoping the Seagate and one of the Maxtors will last as they are only used externally and not all the time. Generally, most makes of hard disk are not really any better than the others at the moment. I would like to try Samsung Spinpoints some time as they are supposed to be good and very quiet.

I wonder what the formatted size would be on a 750GB drive? I lose 20GB on each of my 300GB disks.

I agree with the 750GB being big but maintenance (defrag etc.) would be a pain and if the drive goes so does 750 GB with it. I have all Maxtor HDD, they have been very good to me. Just recently purchased 2 more 200 GB for $39 each at staples after getting their $40 ebate.

It would take a week! I hope WD has done some defrag development as well.

Things change fast in this techno world we live in. I remember using floppy discs in the early 80's in old Apple pcs.

I remember getting real excited when Maxtor brought out their 540MB drive that was around $300 if I remember right. The biggest before that I remember was a 250 MB.

I had a 5MB drive in an old 286 that was about half the size of a Philadelphia PA. phonebook. Now thats big

WD had bad issues a while back, maxtor recently, IBM inbetween.
Seagate and their 5 yr warranty is why I have 4 of them.
My next drive will probably be this one,

                            I like the specs

                              concerning reliability of harddrives

i have 9 drives which have died over the years - most of them MAXTORS

in addition to these 9 drives i have rma'd 3 maxtors already so please dont try to tell me maxtor were anything decent

the last drive i bought some time ago was a 160gb WD and i'd buy another one tomorrow if the samsung sp2504c wasnt better than the corresponding WD which i intend to buy next

definitely no more maxtor for me ever again

                              +++++++++

chewy, the samsung spinpoint p sp2504c is a little better than the wd caviar se16 wd2500ks
