I used ftp through Internet Explorer when I uploaded files to a forum..
see here first one I found that explained it sort of.
Once I logged in I use to minimize the site to a usable size, open windows explorer, minimize to a useable size, then drag and drop the files I wanted to upload or download. Not registered Go here and click register to join the Digital Digest Forums

the acronym FTP stands for FILE TRANSFER PROTOCOL, which is one of the oldest ways of "communication" in the internet
when you use your browser to read this forum you should see another acronym by the name of HTTP (hypertext transfer protocol), which was invented much later (in 1989 at CERN) together with URL (unique resource locator) and HTML (hypertext markup language)
http, html and url actually led to what we call w3 or www today: the world wide web
as opposed to http the file transfer protocol cannot be used for fancy displays but its strength is the actual exchange of data which it still does way better than http
so when you try to download a new driver for your vga for example you may be faced with a list of download locations using FTP
your browser of course supports this protocol but for certain aspects of data exchange a special client for FTP can do way more than what IE, firefox etc can handle and thus for some cases an FTP client is inevitable for some usersComment

admin thought it might be something to do with Using Passive FTP, but I can't find that setting in IE7B2. Hence my use of Filezilla now.

I have all sorts of problems accessing DD's FTP with IE7. I have to do it in an explorer window. IE6 was OK.
I use FileZilla for my website which is either FTP or an HTTP interface (and FTP is easier as it has a progress bar which helps when uploading large files)CYA Later:
