      loco,
those are the 2 burners I have paired in one of my computers, the benq is quality control, trophy burner, and quality reader, the nec 3540 fast ripper and workhorse burner.

if you have your hard drives on serial, try the benq as reader and the nec as burner, and test an 8x COF
with nero, but only with a good burn as source disk.

Which one Carla? Both the NEC's mentioned and the BenQ are DL burners.

I'm used to the workhorse, now I'm ready for some quality...plus all the nifty stuff that is known as Q-suite. I'm actually getting the 1655...I'm a sucker for gimmicks.

I see it now its on more details LOL

So you think this one is the better one?

Maybe one of each LOL (which may not be a bad idea that way I could have a DVD burner on all 3 of my computers)

I cant belive the prices on newegg compaired to all of the local stores in my area. I can gt 3 on newegg for the price on 1 in the local stores. Maybe this area is a bit over priced. Or they are just that much lower there.

                chew - others?...

how difficult, if at all is it to set HD up on serial? Any oddball issues? I need to get newer bigger drive, & if I got a serial one, then I could open up all the ide's for burners.

                4 burners, yea!!!

if you already have a pata hard drive and no serial(sata) coming off motherboard, you would want to go to a ide controller card, using your old hard drive and another new one. If you already have sata, they are easy to install.

I have Abit KV7-V board - it has 2 sata connectors on it, so I guess I'm good to go. Just connect it & boot/ install OS - thats it?

I just know that when I originally set up this board, I had major issues getting the Athlon XP 3200 to run properly; turned out to be an outdated BIOS issue - was a real learning experience!

...sorry I got so far off topic...

Now back to the burner reviews!

PA, I agree, isn't it great!!! Even shipping dirt cheap or free! (& No Tax!!!)

I have a dilemma also... i have two 80 gb ide drives. I would want the new sata drive to be my main windows drive (fast)? so, I guess I need to buy a couple drives & donate my old ones! (One small dr. for OS, lager for storage)

I seem to easily get caught up in the "latest, greatest" upgrade cascade! Also, is the sata setup - 1 device per? that's what it looks like in my manual.

yes, thank goodness, no jumpers for master/slave, but you need to match sata1 up. Don't buy a sata 2 drive.

If you have the room in your case for extra hard drives just put the old patas
                          on one of these.

then just get one sata hard drive

Chewy - I am getting ready to purchase the Seagate 250 gb (newegg) that you recommended.
                                This box will then have;

                                *Sata 250 gb drive
*2 ide drives (total 160 gb)
*2 dvd burners (may add an additional 2, for a grand total of 4)
                                *ATI All in wonder 9600

I guess that's it - the 2 ide hd will be put on a RAID Host Controller to free up the on board ide connectors for the
                                (4) burners.

I have 2 questions for you:

*What size power supply would you go with? (brand/model)?

*Do you feel this setup will run *stable* with what I am attempting to do here?

Anything more you want to add?

I have the machine running well now, & I don't want to end up creating problems by adding the raid controller, etc.

                                thanks!

                                katz
