Some of you may already know "F@H" or "Folding at Home" others don't.
F@H uses distributed computing in order to find cures for diseases like:
* Alzheimer's Disease
* Cancer
* Huntington's Disease
* Osteogenesis Imperfecta
* Parkinson's Disease
* Ribosome & antibiotics
you can help finding cures by running a small tool on your machine(s) to calculate protein folding
(that's where Folding@Home comes from)
F@H is a project of Stanford University and you may compare it to Seti@Home, which is way more popular
I have set up a team for Digital Video Forums:
Here is the team page
What do you have to do in order to join?
Simply download a small application, run it on your computer (windows, linux, mac os - up 2 u) and type in OUR TEAM NUMBER when asked for a team:
51205
When you run the application you will be asked for a user name:
choose/type in any name you want - you dont have to register a nickname anywhere
Here is the F@H homepage for further information
And here is the download section where you will find the necessary software
Windows users are adviced to download the "No nonsense" text-only console
=> http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandeg...04-Console.exe
- download this file to your pc
- run it
- choose a nickname
- type in our team number: 51205
and now let your machine run as much as you can/like
it will be for a good cause
it will test the reliability of your machine (new or old)
it will hopefully earn this forum some points for the team
thanx for joining in and happy folding
Sorry I came in so late on this as it was the first time i have seen this thread. I have downloaded and it seems to be running I am not real sure what it will do or wont do when its done though.
But if something like this can help find a way to cure Cancer count me in!
Not real sure If I have this configured right here is what I have now:

thanx for joining in, pa
and yes, it looks fine what we see except for one setting:
"launch automatically at machine startup => service"
this means each and every time you start your pc it will launch f@h no matter if you like it or not
when doing a video conversion for example i like to have all resources assigned to rebuilder/procoder but definitely not f@h
if you want to change this, let the current WU (work unit) complete and then delete your "client.cfg" which should store all these information (correct me if i'm wrong anyone) and restart the f@h exe and re-configure all the settings but answer NO for the auto-startupLast edited by UncasMS; 22 Sep 2006, 02:53 AM.Comment

Version 5.03 if anybody is interested.
I am sorry I haven't been at this long enough to help you out PA. On advice from somebody that has been doing this for a long time I moved to this version a while ago. I like it because I can right click the system tray icon & do things like configure, even quit the program to burn etc. The settings are pretty well default unless in connections you want larger work packages, you have to have the box checked. I kind of worked out a system probably stupid but I do smaller work during the week & then on Friday I go in to configure check the box & accept a larger work for the weekend. Before that's done I go back in to configure & uncheck the box then carry on.

No you have the latest version I believe, this is the previous stable version 5.03. It can be downloaded from F@H. Here is the link if anybody is interested. BTW I was also warned to stay away from any beta versions.
