Tips on installing RAM?

My wife is good with computers so she does know alot but if she gets stuck I give other things to try.

well an update on this RAM monkey-business. the shop just called and said they just moved my existing stick to slot 2, put the new stick where the old one was, voila it works! WTF!!?? lol i didn't think that would make a difference so i didn't bother! the guy at the store couldn't give me a good answer why that worked either

oh, well!

thinking about re-loading windows later *sigh*.... uuuuuugggghhhhhhhh...(yeah i'm THAT happy about it)

Some motherboards do not like ram that has different densities in the same channel. I have run into this at work, where I had to place the ram board in the other channel and the computer booted up no problems. By the way it was a HP desktop.

just a follow up....

RAM is working fine and i downloaded and ran seagates' hard drive tool, zeroed out the HD and reloaded windows on that PC. it hasn't run so well since it was first bought. only took a day and a half to get everything installed and tweaked the way i wanted it. i found it helps to have a movie playing while installing windows.
