@Wombler I'm trying the 600 case for the first go. For @$45 it seems like a good deal.

Sounds like a good choice Miles. I got two of the 720s. One is full and the other is about 3/4s. The full one is pretty heavy, so the 600 maybe the way to go.

I use Dvdprofiler to keep track of them. I print out a list and leave it in the case, makes it easy to locate any movie.

I wish they had those free database apps when I first started collecting jazz CDs. But I'm lazy. What I wanted was to get a barcode scanner and just read the info off the net .. then just come up with a location code.. like Turnstyle/side/bin numbers or something. By the time you could download free database software I already had 4 of those twirly-gigs filled and I wasn't about to go through all that stuff. Once the inertia builds up it's tough. You have to do a system from the get-go or it ain't gonna' happen.

If these cases work out then at least I should be able to throw out the home-made bookcases with middle shelf sag!! Man those things drive me nuts!!! If you don't lift the jewel case just right about 20 slide onto the floor behind the damn thing!!

Ok, so I see that getting around the hard copy for viewing in a standalone as of now according to you guys is not really an option because you'd still need a hard copy to insert into the player. Also something to store the disc in.

Wombler do the inserts in these DJ aluminum cases completely cover the disc, or leave a lil of the upper edge out? I ask because when I bought my Targus cases I forgot to close that lil flap on the top where you insert the disc and some were going bad there near the top. After I closed the lil flap they were better stored and no scratches or any other issues.

Also the question that still hasn't been answered is if the external hd I get have to be of the same make of my internal hds? I have 2 sata segates. A 250gb which I use right now and a 500gb which I stored away a while back. Please any of you get back to me w/this last question before I purchase the external hd. Thnx.

No it does not need to be the same make.

These case that were talking about is like a file system. If you click on the link I posted you'll get the ideal. There is a slight opening on each of the sleeves, but the whole case is covered with a lid. These in my opinion are the best way to go, there was talk about the wallet types could case damage to your disc if they were over filled. Leading to out of round disc.

Again it really comes down to how much you want to spend. There a wireless systems out there where you can send the video from your pc to your TV.

Ok thnx ipaulo. I did see the link and the pics. It did look like a file system. So you saying that the outer edge on the top where you insert it will not mess up in some way either through any kind of moisture or w/e? Does this usually happen only to crap media? Because if the whole disc is covered except for the part at the top then it's more susceptible to damage since it's exposed.

Also what's up w/E-cost? Anyone buy from them? Reputable as Newegg or Microcenter? Thnx. I'll be pulling the trigger here shortly as soon as I get this final answer I think.

I see it now ipaulo. Well if that's all we have to go by for now I guess I'm going to have to get a case for starters and the external hd as well.

Sorry, but the 1TB Western Digital hard drive is no longer on sale for $119, it is back to $130. The main web page address is www.ecost.com. The address below, is for the Western Digital hard drive. http://www.ecost.com/detail.aspx?edp...@sbcglobal.net

Asked for it you got it. www.ecost.com is the main web.

In the one I bought they're all little plastic pouches (lined with a protective material) which hang on rails like suspension files.

The disc fits almost completely inside.

They leave a small sliver sticking out of the front part of the pouch so that it's easy to get the disc out but the back of the pouch is taller and lined with the protective material so the disc is fully protected from the rear.

There aren't any flaps as they're like slide in pouches rather than close over wallets.

I don't really think there is any potential for damage other than careless handling by the user.

I got mine from here as I'm based in the UK but they're bound to be available elsewhere.

The photos aren't great but they'll give you an idea of what they're like.

The Datawrite 800 one seems to show the clearest view of the pouches but it's one of the Amps models I bought.

If your not in a hurry to make these purchases, I'm sure the price for the HD will come down again some time between now and the new year.

Keep in mind while a 1T will hold a lot of movies, it will fill up pretty fast, especially if you plan on put your collection on it. You might think about a 1.5T or even a 2T.

Once again I feel that DvdProfiler3.5 is the way to go. There is a free version, but version 3.5 is well worth the money. You'll get way better graphics.

I have a 500gb internal I'm not using so maybe another 500gb or 750gb external might be ok for now. I'll have to see what DVDProfiler3.5 is about. Never heard of it. You mentioned graphics so I'm guessing something to do w/copies.
