ImgBurn Locks Up System at Writing Leadin.

Hi all, I hope someone can help with this problem. I've downloaded and installed ImgBurn 1.3 but everytime I try to burn an ISO it locks up my system and forces me to reboot. I tried to get a log file to show but it never works as the system locks up. I've upgraded to the latest firmware for the DVD drive but it's not helping. I'm running an AMD 3000+ with 2GB RAM and a 550wt power supply, so I don't think it's my system speed or power. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Hello,
    And welcome to the forum.
How may I ask are you creating the .ISO file?
What programs are you using to creat that .ISO file?

Your computer specs are better then mine so I wouldnt think that is the reason unless you have other computer issues.

Thanks for responding. I used DVD Shrink to rip the ISO file onto my hard drive, but ImgBurn just doesn't want to burn it. I'm at a loss. Thanks for any help.

How are you trying to burn with IMGBurn,
Meaning how do you open the file with the program.

Go to the .ISO file and right click that file select burn with IMGburn.
That should be working for you.

Didn't work. It still just locks the system up at Writing Leadin. I know the burner works as I've used it with Nero. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

This may be able to help you,

Problem: You get an I/O Error saying 'The Parameter is incorrect'. Answer: In the settings screen, change the 'Transfer Length' option to 'Manual' instead of 'Automatic' and put it on '32 KB' instead of '64 KB'.

It actually continues to cycle through the last three lines, but it would be insane to post something that long.

The log is a good part of finding the problem in this case I really dont know why or what is going wrong. It looks to me like IMGburn cant find your drive I could be wrong on this one.

Give it some time maybe some else can help you with that click on help in IMGburn there is a forum for just IMGburn.

                      Any ideas would be appreciated.
your burner is problematic to say the least, on a scale from 1-10 they rate
very low, seen them on sale for as low as 20$

is everything else working with it?

I know the burner works as I've used it with Nero
can you post a nero log, does it still work with nero(burn a data dvd)?

I've taken care of the drive problem by ordering the BenQ drive you suggested under hardware. I'll slap that in when it comes and let you know how it worked.

Strange though, the drive is working with Nero, but Nero sucks so I'm determined to get ImgBurn to work.

                        Thanks for the help.

You can't ever have too many burners or computers for that matter, maybe LUK will drop in and explain what we missed.

It all looks fine to me.

The log doesn't show anything as being wrong - besides that you're using one of those drives I really hate! You know, the ones that don't tell you who makes them! (The kind I always tell people to keep well clear of!).

If you've ordered a BenQ, all should be well.

That aside, the drive does the leadin part. If there is a problem, it'll never finish and so ImgBurn just sits there waiting patiently. There's not much I can do about it. If all parts of the system are working as they should do, such freezes would not occur. I have to suspect the drive (and it's firmware) at this stage - there is a reason they give them such a generic name... it's so you don't know who to blame! lol

The main problem is, if an I/O operation gets stuck, the entire system gets stuck as they seem to be processed synchronously, or there is at least some degree of 'blocking' going on. That's why when the drive dies, the entire system grinds to a halt.

Without getting the same sort of debug log again (but for the actual burning stage), it's impossible to say exactly what's happening.

For speed concerns, no debugging code/ability is built into the actual burn phase though, so you'd need to use a low level bus snooper type tool.

might show something causing a conflict?
