backup onto dvd double layer problem

    Hello mods.......
I have trying to make a backup of dvd ¨verakai¨ -cirque du soleil- since this dvd is quite big, I purchased an 8.8 gb dvd+R double layer.....
I did the whole process with dvd shrink...everything was perfect but when I enter the blank dvd to proceed with the back up i got following error from dvd shrink

    ¨dvd shrink requested dvd-r, dvd+r, dvd-rw, dvd+rw¨
    ¨dvd shrink found dvd+r9 double layer¨
¨please insert requested dvd or change your preference¨

I forgot to ell you that I have selected 8.5gb dvd on dvd shrink preference before backing up..

thanks in advance for your support !!

    Stop!

Do not use DVD Shrink/Ner0 for dual layer disks. DL ImgBurn and burn it from there. There is no need for DVD Shrink on dual layer disks. For one, it removes the layer break and for 2, Ner0's awkward way of handling DL disks is a recipe for a coaster.

Simply rip the DVD - use RipIt4Me
And burn - use ImgBurn in build mode.

Only use Verbatims DVD+Rs. Make sure your firmware is up to date. Burn them at 2.4X. Read and implement the Golden Rules of Burning.

Les, I am at my wits end. After creating not less than 6 DL coasters, I'm at a loss for what I'm doing wrong. I've been burning DL disks with PgcEdit per your guide. I've gone over all the settings, everything seems correct. I've tried a firmware upgrade, got the latest. I'm using Verbatim +R's, so no problem there, (I assume!) In all cases, the burn process terminates with the following I/O error:
      I/O Error!

      Device: [2:0:0] PLEXTOR DVDR PX-740A 1.02 (D (ATA)

      Interpretation: Unrecovered Read Error

My ISO creation log seems normal:

      ISO created OK.

So, per your suggestion above, I went to RipIt4Me, used ImgBurn build mode to create the ISO and the same darned error came up. I get the same result when trying to burn to my Sony DRU-700A.

In each occurance, the burner locks up, requiring a restart.

I hope you can see a simple suggestion here, but I'm at a loss.
      Thanks in advance,
      ~J

            CaptJeff,
try it the easy way - rip with Ripit4me in ISO mode (use the 1 click mode)
and burn with IMGBurn. I've done loads of D/Ls that way no problem , but
you must use Verbatim D/L + the only reliable D/L disc .
            Rick

Les - OK, here is the Imgburn log from my latest failed attempt. I used Ripit4me, ISO Mode, then tried to burn with Imgburn. Hope you can see something i can't! By the way, I use only Verbatim +R's when doing DL's.

Also, sometimes I will get what looks like a successful burn, but the copy fails the DVDInfo Read test.

Strange, you are having problems with Verbatims and none with the infamous Ritek G05s.

There's a possibility you have a bad batch of Verbs.

                      Is your DMA on?

I moved your posts back here - please post in the one thread.

                      Regards
                      Les

we might want to look at the drive configuration with nero info tool

                          bus filter drivers also

I don't have Nero, any other utilities available for drive config and bus filter drivers?

I haven't had one problem with the Riteks for compressed, DVD 5 backups. My only prob has been with the DL burning and that's only been recently with the latest batch of Verbatims, which I found on Ebay for a ridiculously low price. I'm going to pick up a stack at the local retailer to see if that helps the I/O error.
