Hi folks, I'm fairly new to DVD burning and it's my first post here. I think there may be a problem with RipIt4Me 1.4.14.0 that didn't apply with 1.4.13.0.
I use a LiteOn SHM-165P6S for burns.
I have 2 DVD players, a Sony DVP-NS51P multi-Region and a Transonic (cheap supermarket brand in New Zealand, also multi-Region).
I have only ever used Sony AccuCORE DVD-R 16x blanks.
I've been using RipIt4Me 1.4.13.0 with DVDDecrypter and DVDShrink and Nero Express 6 for DVD backups, everything has always worked like clockwork (excellent software), and the copies always played in all my DVD players without a hitch.
Yesterday I made backups of 3 movies, all are brand new in perfect condition, all are Region 4 and apparently unencrypted. I started with "My Neighbour Totoro", when I ran 1.4.13.0 I was prompted to upgrade to 1.4.14.0, I declined as I was busy, and made the copy of the movie with 1.4.13.0. It was fine.
I then upgraded to 1.4.14.0 and proceeded to copy "Laputa: Castle in the Sky". The copy appeared to be successful, so I also copied "Kiki's Delivery Service" which also appeared successful. (I made movie-only backups, ie., removed all menus and extras).
All three copies played perfectly on the Transonic DVD player, BUT the two copies made with 1.4.14.0 were not recognised by the Sony DVD player, it could not even start playing them no matter how many times I inserted the discs, it tried for about a minute then gave me the message "Cannot play this disc".
So, I then re-made the two suspect copies from scratch, ie, totally started again, with the older RipIt4Me 1.4.13.0 and lo-and-behold, they are 100% OK and play perfectly on my Sony player.
Coincidence that the copies failed on my Sony player when I upgraded from 1.4.13.0 to 1.4.14.0? It's possible I suppose, but I doubt it. So, I'm going back to 1.4.13.0 which I know works, ie., if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Thoughts, anyone?
