    Well, I thought all was well with this, but looks like not;

On the third movie that I was burning, the following error occured. "Invalid Address For Write". I am using TY, burning at 4x. Any ideas what is going on here?

Why are you sticking with 1.3.0.0 ?! It's free, just update!

Look at the log entry here:

      I 20:48:02 Destination Device: [0:0:0] BENQ DVD LS DW1655 BCHB (J (SCSI)
      I 20:48:02 Destination Media Type: DVD-R (Disc ID: TYG02) (Speeds: 2.4x, 4x, 8x)
      I 20:48:02 Destination Media Sectors: 2,298,496
then compare it to this one:

      I 21:25:45 Destination Device: [0:1:0] BENQ DVD LS DW1655 BCHB (G (SCSI)
      I 21:25:45 Destination Media Type: DVD-R (Disc ID: TYG02) (Speeds: 4x)
      I 21:25:45 Destination Media Sectors: 2,297,888
Notice the one that failed only shows 4x as a supported speed and shows a different number of free sectors. It's as if the drive can't initialise the disc properly.

Duff discs, duff drive, who knows?!

It looks to me as if there's something wrong with your G: drive.

katz, take that drive and connect it to the motherboard ide and put a blank in and post the info shown with imgburn

before changing it verify that the tyg02's are being read wrong?

Thanks for the heads up on that, LUK! I believe there is a problem with the drive; I had posted a thread on here earlier in regards to this drive.

However, Since then, I cleaned out the pc, re-seated everthing, & swapped out an ide cable, and the drive at that point appeared to be working. I guess maybe not

I will do that. Newegg has issued me an RMA for the drive, but unfortunantly I can only get a refund, since there are no more 1655s in stock.

The number of free sectors shows correct now, but media only shows 4x.

            Bad drive?

can you flash the firmware back to BCDB to see if it read the same before you RMA it?

might have a corrupt flash from before? I would reflash as standalone master on the second ide off the motherboard from safe mode just to be sure.

I don't think the version of the firmware matters tho.

I though about doing that, but I was concerned about the risk. I can return it now, but if they see that I monkeyed with it, or worse yet, it would happen to "lock up" during the reflash, then that would be bad!

I will have to give it some thought.

                    regards, katz
