Actually, AFAIK, if you are in The Netherlands, this is entirely legal. As for the rest of the world, very much including The United States, the answer is a strict, no.

I wonder why the quality would drop so much. It isn't hard to make a nice looking backup as we all know.

Because, in China, they are taped out of theaters and sold on the streets. And it is legal. So, thus the direct digital source (DVD) is always gonna look better than something taped out of theaters.

I've seen some of the boot legs where you see people standing up and walking across the screen. I personally would NEVER buy those, but I know people who are perfectly happy with that 'quality'.

Yep, same here. But, one of my friends who went to China said that there are people on the streets selling bootlegs for $1... so some people probably would buy those.

You can buy used ones from them for under $10.00 as well as most other rental places. The even give you the case with inserts with them. Columbia House has some good deals after you buy one at the regular price.

I am more of a rap person myself... I like hip-hop too. As far as rock goes, some rock is OK, but I don't like most rock. I also like some other non-hip-hop bands, like Green Day, and Linkin Park.
