    Scene change threshold

    hey guys,

i recently ripped Blade2 and encoded it.......unlike most of the DVD's ive ripped, its not very compressible. It came out a rather poor picture quality in comparison to the other movies i've ripped, and the fact that its almost 2 hours long doesnt help. i was wondering if the scene change threshold option in divx 5.0.2 would at all be able to help with my quality problem, or if u can suggest anything else that mite

for reference the settings i used were:

    max bitrate i could (715kbps)
    2 pass - second pass
    All mpeg 4 tools on
    720*576
    max keyframe itnerval 300
    scene change threshold 45%
    performance/quality slowest

    Cheerz, Malus

1.st of all: crop your movie!

then use some smaller resolution (dont know what the original format is for blade2 [didnt even know it has been released on dvd].

i should think it is widescreen and i would thus recommend:

        544 x 208

I would suggest that you never use the original resolution of the movie always lower the resolution and always crop of the black bars.

The biggest resolution you should use for a 16:9 movie, widescreen, is 640x272 and you should only use that if the movie is under 90 minutes, or else the quality won't be any good.

Check at www.doom9.org on his bitrate and resolution guide to understand more about it.

            what format is it btw?

the resolution i suggest above was meant for NTSC
if it is PAL it should be 544 x 244

you said that you normally used 720 x 576 (which would be pal) still or because of that i'd like to know the formats you use.
