    1. Definitely not - DVD Remake Pro is a very comprehensive re-authoring package.

    2. TDA does basic authoring from your DVD but will do the job in respect of creating a menu for you.

    3. You might try DVD Styler - see the Read This First sticky. If you have the full Ner0, Vision Express will also create menus in a package-like way.

        I'm broken again

        Hi FA,

I'm in a pattern. I'll be creating discs for months and then something happens
and my discs go bad. It's happened 3 times now. Would you please check
these files and tell me what's wrong? Software is ULead DVD Workshop 2
        and TitleWriter 2.651.

        Thanks!

          Mr Limpet

Looks like the same thing as before (almost). Hard to tell from just the ifo's without the .vob filesizes.

Try this -- Undo changes Open your video_ts.ifo in ifoedit -- Hit Get Vts Sectors -- Say yes to resave all -- Now Watch carefully -- If Ifoedit shows changes being made -- small windows showing old/new will pop up then your problem is in Ulead not TW.

If Ifoedit made changes -- Re TW -> burn to test disk -- if the test disk works then the problem is in Ulead

If ifoedit did not make changes Post the ifo's and the video_ts.vob and vts_01_0.vob and I'll look deeper

It looks like (from here) Ulead is creating non-compliant ifo's -- This will foul up ifo editors.

Hey FallenAngel, I've been playing around with TW and didn't get too far. I got to import a generic menu and saved it. after that, didn't go so well. I couldn't preview the menu i picked nor edit the titles. Is the the number of titles/chapters on my compilation limited in order for me to edit? Should I use menu20 of the simple menu. and last, is it possible for me to use a Jpeg as background of my menu? Thank you very much for you help. Mazza

Martinmazza -- ??? What do you mean by Edit in your above posts

I'm a tad unsure of your questions -- So I'll just throw out some general answers

Did you read the Help files included (".rtf")

TW Has no support for altering images in the menu after importing it is not an authoring program

You can use any menuing authoring software to create your own menu -- I Used DVDLABPro to create the simplemenus

You use whatever simplemenu contains support for the # of titles that your compiliation has

                  For example
if you have 1 title --- Use Menu1Movie
                  3 Titles -- Menu4Movie
                  16 Titles -- Menu20Movie

After importing a "Simple" menu you can play it with the software of your choice

                    hi FA,

the reason i use titlewriter, is to add the original menu back to my DVDShrink re-authored DVD's. i did the movie Gladiator, and it worked fine, however when i do the movie Batman Begins, the menu is added, but when i go to the scene selection and select a scene, my DVD players software (PowerDVD) just stops the DVD.

i've tried 2.651 and 2.652 and the same thing happens.

                    this is what i do:
                    1. made sure "Add menu" is checked"
                    2. opened DVDShrink output and browsed for the full ripped DVD with the original menu.
                    3. it then gave me this:
                    video_ts - (path to original video_ts)
                    vts_title 01 - (path to original menu)
                    vts_title 02 - no menu:
                    vts_title 03 - (path to original menu)

i tried saving this, but it didnt work, so i tried clicking on "vts_title 02" since it said "no menu:", added the original menu and saved, but it still doesnt work.

                    any ideas?

                      TW >> Undo

Readd the menu -- Get the compiliation back to the point where this happened.

but when i go to the scene selection and select a scene, my DVD players software (PowerDVD) just stops the DVD.
Since you "Saw" a scene selection menu you imported the right menu into the right vts in your compiliation -- its just contains funky navigation that the first pass (Add Menu) didn't resolve

Close your Player -- Open the compiliation again in TW (If you closed it)

                      >>Menu Editor View

I'll assume your movie is in vts_title 1
--Click that line in Menu Editor View (Expansion happens in View)
then Happyface Icon (This subroutine Fixes buttons to their actual targets and simplifys Menu pgc's navigation chains for the expanded vts Menu)

Fill/edit the form (You can drag/drop buttons/Pgcs various editboxes)
                      >>Simplify Menu

Read HappyfaceHelp.rtf -- Its dead simple once you've done it once and gotten the idea behind it.

ok, i went to the menu editor view, clicked on vts_title 1 and clicked the smiley face. according to the help file, there should have been a image of the menu in the large box, but nothing showed up. so then i just clicked "simplify menu" and previewed the DVD, and it works fine now.

it worked out ok, but do you know why no preview image showed up?

Probably because the menu started with a blank frame (motion menu)-- click on the slidebar in thumbnail to move around. Or TW was so confused it couldn't even figure out which menu was the first play.

? if No thumbnail at all showed up you need to edit settings to PgcEditView
(supplied in download) Try clicking on Vob entries In Menu Editor View to verify that The Path to pgceditview is correct and operating right

PS You got very very lucky -- TW Tries to figure out the right #'s before showing the Happyface form
It is extremely rare if it got them all correct (Usually it gets the Setup and Select Chapter Menu buttons in the main menu wrong) -- You should check-edit- verify those values before hitting Simplify Menu.

ok, i will try that now.

btw, i noticed that the scene selection works, but i dont think the audio menu works correctly, because the only buttons that work are the "main menu" and "continue" buttons; i cant navigate to the audio languages and subtitles. i did remove all languages except english, and i think "disable invalid buttons" is enabled by default... is this why?

its not a big deal... all i care about is the scene selection, as thats the only reason i want a menu.

edit: ok, i guess i didnt set the path to pgceditview. i did that and when i click on the smiley face, it opens pgceditview, but i still see no picture. i moved the slider and theres nothing.

No Razel "disable invalid buttons" --is not it -- Tw only auto kills buttons where I'm absolutely sure that the button leads to removed content.

In your case you just hit Simplify -- without plugging the right values into the all areas of the form
Tw Happyface Initial analysis doesn't try to figure out the "audio/Setup" section of the form -- you need to fill them in. Since you didn't fill in the values it did't "fix" the audio/subtitle menu.

ok, i guess i didnt set the path to pgceditview. i did that and when i click on the smiley face, it opens pgceditview, but i still see no picture. i moved the slider and theres nothing.
Now thats a problem -- you really need the thumbnail to fill in happyface

When it Opened Pgceditview was it in the thumbnail or a completely seperate window on top of Happyface?

In Menu Editor click on a Title line to expand view to deep content -- then click on lines containing Vob --
Do you see any pictures at all? For any line containing Vob ?

See if theres a folder C:\Temp on your computer?

Is this a NTSC or Pal compiliation?

I'm trying everything I can think of to "break" the thumbnail viewer -- Can't seem to make it happen

If Possible could you menushrink the compiliation zip and post the ifo's and Video_ts.vob and vts_01_0.vob

it opens Pgceditview in a seperate window... im assuming its not supposed to?

i clicked on a vob in the menu edit box and it opened pgceditview in a seperate window and showed nothing (i moved the slider too).

no, theres no Temp folder in my C:\ drive.

                                its an NTSC compiliation.

you mean the video_ts.bup? i dont see any video_ts.vob file... i see video_ts.bup, video_ts.ifo, vts_01_0.vob, vts_01_0.bup and then all the ifo files. is this what you want me to send you?

i always use menushrink so thats already done, but the vts_01_0.vob file is already 1.8mb zipped, so i cannot post it here. if you can give me your e-mail address, i can e-mail it to you instead.
