Hello, This was probably answered on here already but I am not sure how explain my problem to look for the answer, mabey you can point me to some threads/links or just answer my question. I have an external USB 2.0 DVD writer and I am trying to burn different types of dvds and it writes at .4x/500kb/s on both - and + discs. I am thinking it is because it is an external writer and it might not be as fast as an IDE but I really want to know how I can solve this problem. This writer can burn 8x - 16x so there is no reason it should be performing this lousy. Any help would be great!

Problems with getting USB2 running
Even the Sony website did not support this device yet (August 3, 2004)
I finally went into device manager, right clicked on usb devices, selected properties, and did a search for updated drivers. The search found and installed the appropriate drivers. These can be found on windows service pack 1 but I have no idea why it did not automatically install them for me.Comment

I don't know if my computer have USB 1.1 or USB 2.0? Is the external DVD burners compatiable with USB 1.1?
A: Yes it is comptiable with USB 1.1. However you will be only able to burn CD and read CD / DVD, you can not burn DVD because the speed is too slow. To check if your USB port is USB 2.0 or standard USB 1.1, go to "Control Panel" --> "Device Manager" --> "Universal Serial Bus Controller" to see if you have "USB 2.0 Root Hub" listed or "Enhanced Universal Serial Bus Controller" thereunder.Comment
