        Hi folks,

Darn ... I do not save my scans ... but I will run one ... I can't remember which burns were 100% ... but I will just do a new burn to see if it was not a fluke!

        G!

that is true - and, I guess there will always be some sort of burner out there that will do the scan - just not the new benq

                  1640 or 1650

                  Hi Everybody,

I am going to buy a Benq burner, both 1640 and 1650 are still available here in Uruguay.
The 1640 seems to be greately appreciated in this forums.
Is the newer 1650 really a better burner?

My main priority is to get the best compatability with lesser media, good media is almost non existant in Uruguay. I have 4 DVD players at home (one Pioneer, three Denon), making burns that work on all four is quite a problem.

How do both drives handle Benq's own media? It is widely available here (and cheap).

                  Regards
                  Gustavo

                    Chewy,

I think I saw something somewhere the other day that it showed "BenQ" DVD blanks were being made by "SONY"!!!!

                    Is that true?

I suppose with BenQ bitsetting any DVD+R set to DVD ROM should play back on everything and anything!!!

                      gonwk,

It's not a bitsetting problem, DVD's play but then start pixeling and finally freeze completely, even if they show not so many errors when scanned.

(I hope I make myself understood, my english is not very good.ç)

I already searched for benq blanks, there are several kinds, with no more to go on than benq, can't say more. Like memorex, they don't make them, they subcontract.

benq's don't like crap media, they are fussy eaters

                          Hi Chewey & Gvera,

Gvera ... thanks for clarifying and your English is perfect ... I guess I must have just read the end part and not the whole story ...

But now I am confused ... if the burned dvd scans OK ... but then gives you pixelation problem and then stopping ....

@ Gvera, the burned dvd that gave you the problem can you tell me
                          1) What Brand?
                          2) Rated Speed?
                          3) What Speed did you burn it at?
                          4) Which program did you use to burn it with?
                          5) How long did you have this burned dvd "stored", before replay?

                          G!

                            Interesting thread!

I have a Benq 1650 and I have been unimpressed with it compared to my Pioneer 110D.

Using TY +R and -R disks I get better quality scores from the Pioneer (95-99) than I ever get from the 1650 (90-95), however, I have not burned more than a half dozen disks on the 1650 because I wanted the best burns possible and the Pioneer appeared to do that.

I have one question, however. I quit burning on the 1650 because I was using TY disks (TYG03 and T02) that are supported by the firmware and I assumed that the 1650 would not "learn" to burn them any better. Am I right here or will the burns for supported disks improve as it learns the disks?

Also, I changed the firmware from BCDC to BCFC (From China) but it did not make any difference. I have the BCHC but I have not tried it.

first burn with this mid and firmware

it might take several burns to learn a mid, the tyg03's are a problem, when you change firmware, you mess up the learning so have to give it several more burns.

the pioneers do an excellent job of burning, they suck with verifying the quality of their burns

                              stay with BCFC

post a few of those 98/99 burns in the scan thread(but scanned with the benq not the pioneer)

I was recently looking into purchasing a Pioneer burner on newegg; The 111D model. However, when I read this -
                                NO booktype setting; rip-locked
it kind of turned me off to the purchase...

Maybe not a real big deal, but I don't see the need for Pioneer to "lock" the drives like that...

                                Also, chewy is correct.
it might take several burns to learn a mid
I can say that my 1655 will easily burn 95-98 with TY 002, after it "learned" the media. (a couple of discs)

                                Just my thoughts...
