I have been scanning some burns this morning with the new CD-DVD Speed 4.7.5.0 and I noticed the Disc Quality to be quite quirky.

Changes in Nero CD-DVD Speed 4.7.5.0

Added TA jitter test for recent LiteOn drives
    - Added support for DVD-RW DL and DVD+RW DL
    - Disc Quality Test
    · Improved jitter reporting for LiteOn drives
    · Added recorder information in statistics window
    · PI/PIF averages calculated differently
    - Added support for hybrid discs
    - File dialogs are resizable
    - Small improvements and bug fixes

The PIF averages caculated differently is the new change that I'm thinking is causing the different scans on my SH182D. I haven't tried any scans on the NEC 3550, maybe it will like the changes.

Looks like mostly updates for Lite-On folks though.
Anyone else have a chance to try the new version, any good or bad results, let me know please.

Here is the same burn with scan on CD-DVD Speed 4.7.0.2 and CD-DVD Speed 4.7.5.0.

to really test it, you would have to do 2 scans with older version, then 2 scans with the newer version to rule out the effect of scanning irregularity with the samsung, not sure their firmware/hardware is quite up to snuff like liteon with quality scanning

the samsung is better known for the quality of burns and construction

testing the new version with my benq right now

the averages go way down with pie and pif?????????????????

and pie totals go way down

glad I kept the old version

        Okay Chewy thanks.

I have another issue now, here is the error I receive at the end of the scan. The scan does complete however.

Perhaps I will revert back to the other version, I liked it quite well, lol.

durn this is as bad as the buggy dvdinfopro free program

I am deleting the new version of cdspeed

better to stay a few versions behind and avoid buggy beta releases

I'm sure it is great with some burners as we know it was always nice to the NEC in handing out a QS of 99 quite often.

I believe that error I received may be due to the fact that my Samsung isn't officially supported by CD-DVD scan. For that reason I won't use it anymore.

I tried a few 99 scans in the NEC, still nice low PIF but the PIE is going crazy on me. I'm convinced the new version is for Lite-On or other specific burners out there, the odd ball and older burners may not fair as well, lol.

but the PIE is going crazy on me
nec's tend to exaggerate pie's real bad, I ignore them when using an nec to scan

the pif's are the result of pie's and my nec scans of good burns correlate to
my benq scans if I just look at the pif

the only notable difference seems to be the PIE average

Seems like the new version had little if any effect on the Lite-On, expected as much.

Back to old version with new firmware, things are looking like they should again.

I believe I'll keep using the older version, seems odd that the PIE totals are almost the same, but the average is much lower with the new version.....seems the older version shows a more accurate PIE average.

it's not really an issue unless you are comparing scans done with different versions of cdspeed

new version is probably more accurate for the pie average

now if erik would just fix the quality score calculation

Ahh, so a similar burner with the same error code. Glad it isn't just me!

Well that is a nice PIE average in the updated version compared to the other, lol.
