a while back I bought a desk top case w/o PS and tried to get by with
        cheap power(mini-atx), to be safe I ordered 2 PS's for 20$ each(400watt)

        both crapped out within months

        never buy powmax

Power supply came with new case.
Maybe new power supply is the answer for using this drive?

            link to the case?

            we are just guessing here?

there might even be an intermittent short somewhere??

found one in a front connector one time?

I had given up on the computer and an electronics buddy of mine that bought the pos finally found the problem

              Chewy, Thanks for your help.

              I'm debating on new PS and/or a new 160P6S.

I'll post what solves the problem after the 1st. (payday)

Okay I want to gamble on the power supply.

It seems that first thing in the morning I can burn without the error, but after a few hours of my PC on I am guessing the power supply is too warm to put out that kind of power.

Any recommendations of a Good 500W power supply that would be under $100 out of pocket (Before Rebates)

I have a DVD writer, DVD-Rom, Floppy, 1 hard drive(maybe another down the road) My MB is a Gigabyte GA-K8NSC-939. I am running an AMD Athlon 3000+

I do like newegg, but do not want to get junk again.

                Thanks All

I have had good luck with these, good burns, even copy on the fly at 16x,
but a 200-300$ vid card would probably overload it

this would be another one I would choose, had good luck with the 400-450 watt ones in sligtly older computers

free shipping and 10$ off and the specs make it a best buy

Well put in the power supply. Incredible that it how weighed much more than my old one.

Worked great for 4 burns then same error.

Put in Sony-D21 disk, not a problem. Never had an error.

I'm guessing this burner just doesn't like Yuden's very much. Maybe future firmwares will address this.

I'm hoping Verb's MCC-004 's will go on sale this next week, because I prefer them and never had a problem.

I am not dissapointed with a new power supply that I know I can count on.

BTW Chewy Your are incredible. Thank You for all your help.

Nothing like a never give up Wookie. Thanks for not throwing in the towel when I was.

I reflashed, so far so good.

Curious on the troubleshooting, how hot is too hot for MB, and processor and does it matter which connection goes to the burner (master drive) on the IDE cable (middle or end)?

                            master at end of cable

mobo temp = room + 10 in centigrate

cpu 50-70C load old P4 and amd

new amd and intel should run 40-50C

Well the error came up again. I guess I'll have to stick with Verbs or Sony for now.

Maybe this drive does not like 8X media, I could guess all day.

I was thinking about a Benq burner, But all I can find for sale is a DW1620 for $79.99. Is it worth it?
