      Okay,

I got the SH-S182D in. It burns so much quieter. I love it so far.

      Thanks Chewy!!

Just a couple of questions that are maybe easy fixes that I can not find the answer to.

      1. I am assuming the best DMA on this drive is Ultra 2. Is this normal?

      2. When I try to scan with CD speed in Disk Quality the start button is greyed out. Is there a way around?

Came with SB05 Firmware. March 2007 Date

dma 2 is fine, course it's only 33MB/s, about 24X dvd burning speed

soup and dan use them to scan?

in regedit, you can find the key by finding samsung or TSST

it's under blocked, in cd quality

Nice burner burrell, loving mine as well.
I have mine on Ultra DMA Mode 5.

Here is the key that Chewy was talking about.

          EDIT: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ahead\Nero Toolkit\CD Speed\CD Quality

Once you navigate this far and select CD Quality look for Blocked on the right side. Right click on Block, select Modify and simply delete TSST or Samsung, but leave Plextor there. Hit ok and you should be good.

If you are going to use CD Speed 4.7.5.0, under Disc Quality is Advanced at bottom right.

With disk in hit Advanced and remove check beside Jitter (DVD) if it is checked or you will likely receive an error at the end of your scans, soup and I both did.

Good Luck! Let us know if you have any problems.

Thanks Dan, it's nice to have an expert with newer Samsung drives handy.

It's about time cdspeed supported them better.

I agree! It's a shame a regedit is required just to enable scanning.

The newest version of CD-Speed shows no signs of being friendly to Samsung, it's way too buggy for me. Even when I went back to previous version it didn't seem right.

Since my clean install, went with previous stable version and it's worked better then ever.

                Thanks Guys!!

                That did the trick.

@Dan, How did you get ultra 5, and whick stable version are you referring to?

I have 4.7.5.0, but I can go back.

Glad it worked for you burrell.

On the cd-dvd speed site 4.7.0.0 is the previous good version.

The newest version may be just fine, but I just didn't care for it much, and I received a few errors messages here and there with the Samsung.

As for the DMA, I had to go into the bios and change a setting for DMA 5.

Is the burner Master or Slave? Should be getting DMA 4 if Master???

I was doing the registry thing for a Samsung the other day on another machine, did normal followed the path through & left HL-DT-ST, in the box, because we all know we have to leave something in there. Came out, launched speed & still greyed out, couldn't figure out WTF went wrong. Then it hit me, I forgot to take out the comma. (D'OH)
