    help with firmware

    i am having problems with my firmware. it will not stay in region 1. i have tried to uninstall my dvd burner but it keeps resetting. my dvd burner is an hl-dt-st dvdrrw gwa-4166b.

        not quite sure on where i go to find out what version my firmware is.

          You don't state what firmware you are currently using....but the thread I linked you to is the most current that I can find and yet is still over a year old.

          1I24 is the one I see for your drive...

            run the nero info tool and let's see what it says under the drive report

            see general computing for the sticky

            paste just the drive report nothing else

                    Is that an HP computer? Were both optical drives factory installed???

                      its a compaq presario. the sony burner was installed by me. the other came with the computer. i havent change anything hardware wise on the computer

                        HP and compaq are one and the same now, your pm to me indicated a problem staying in dma with the drives?

                        since you installed the sony combo drive I would like you to test with it unhooked, I suspect a problem with drive jumpers and/or cabling?

                              2 options,
                              just unhook the drive you added(pull the cables) leaving original drive unchanged jumpers and cable position and see if your problems reappear

                              or

                              doublecheck both drives and make sure they are jumpered and cabled right

                              master/slave w/ regular cable or cable select with cs cable
