    print screen problems

i don't know if this is the corrct forum for this topic but I need some help

I took some video of a lightning storm last nite
I was watching th video in quick time (no choice powerdvd6 wouldn't play it) the video is off my kodack camera.....

anyhow I was using the print screen key to capture any good lightining shots to paste in photoshop for cleaning up later.

    The problem is:
after about 3-4 printscreens I could NO longer take screenshots, every paste would be the same as the last screenshot until i restarted my computer.
    what's going on???

    how can i fix this?

is there a free download of a simple screennshot program that anyone recommends???

    thanks
    Dr K

ScreenHunter is free and will do the whole screen, active window or a rectangle whose size you can set.

pls keep in mind that print screen only copies one screenshot into your memory from which you will have to paste it with any suitable application

hitting print screen two times in a row will make the second "capture" overide the first one

this is a windows standard unless you enhance your clipboard

are you saying that no other screenshot will be pasted into ps than one particular/the last one out of ... or are you saying you cannot paste more than one at a time?

You cant paste more then one at a time unless you are opeing new for each one or you must save the first image as.... what ever file format you want such as .png, or jpg .....and so one then do another one. You can open more then one pic in PS at a time but when starting a new one you have to save it as a file.

you may also want to try and paste your screenshots to Windows paint it is easier then PS.

Well I do have to agree that photoshop is better by a long shot but windows paint is easier.
                  LOL

I actually dont use either of the 2 for screen shots unless I want to edit the shot then I use PS.

For screen shots I use a program called snagit.

Also what version of photoshop are you using?
Do you have the real photoshop or are you using the FREE version that comes with new computers? Those are 2 totally different programs.

for a simple screenshot PS is overkill, that's true

... still i hate paint for all its inefficiencies

either use snagit or paste into other gfx-apps like xnview

                    +++++++++++++++

if you want some decent gfx tool, try this freeware:
                    PHOTOFILTRE

that explains why your screenshots are huge in file size, paint's png compression sucks

                        not only png compression

you cant set any compression ratio for jpeg either and gif is ....well outdated anyway *g*

i have full versions of PS 5.5 and 7.0

and yes after about 3 or 4 captures I can only paste the last capture over and over unless i restart.

                            errrrr.......

                            please help

PS i was using PS because I did want to edit and clean up the pics.

                              which OS? installed updates?

probably just deleted the shortcut, paint should be in c:\windows\system32\mspaint.exe
