My dad was still doing his taxes on it. I asked him if he ever got a refund and he said he always owes the IRS. That's the day I got him to shop for a new one!

On the box set for The Simpsons, Season One :

"Welcom to the first of many deluxe overpriced DVD sets of The Simpsons. With 280-odd shows in the can an no end in sight, you might be able to complete your Simpsons DVD collection just before the next format comes along."

      I hope I make it.

Yep, and of course, the earlier DVD sets will have counterparts that are formatted for blu-ray along side the current discs.

Suppose you had 50 DVD box sets of some tv show, each box set has 7 or more DVD's. Then along comes the new format, and another 50 or so box sets is published. Does one replace the earlier box sets with the newer versions and just discard the older sets?

I have all of the Star Trek DVD box sets, The Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space 9, Voyager, all 10 movies. If these are ever published in blu-ray format..I dont intend to just throw away my current collection, but maybe later on, add to the current collection with the blu-ray formats.

        Here..I will fix it!

Blu-ray will have to come down in price SUBSTANTIALLY before I'll consider switching. The idea of having to switch everything over holds little appeal, but will most likely happen, anway in the long term. Already, I have very few VHS tapes lying around.

Remember when the were no drop down menus and no mouse? You had to know all the shift-F1 and alt-F2 keys?

Not to sound like a broken record (or any other media of the past) but why change media until you have to. Someone earlier pointed out that the quality increase is not gonna be noticed as much by average person and more me personally i like the convienence of being able to back up my dvd collection. Look at the music industry when mp3 came out that would be the end of cd's. well cd's are still around coexsisting with mp3(probably because they are easily converted to mp3 and allow you to have a master copy of your music collection) DVd-Audio came out years ago and it's supposedly better quality but you don't see people rebuying their favorite music in that format.
Personally i like the idea that technology is getting better, but just like dvd i will not invest until i'm sure that format will be around for awhile.

I hope that in the near future someone comes out with bluray burners that will be like a slap in sonys face and i'll make sure to backup all there movies just to spike em'

Gotta agree there. Small advances aren't worth throwing out everything you have. It may (possibly) be the way things are going, but it won't be the giant leap that manufacturers want you to believe (to try and get you to buy immediately).

And everything was a lovely shade of green. The first color monitor in the lab was hotly contested, both for it's anti-nausea properties and its prestige.

I do have a whole room full of old, but good electronic equipment. So I went and looked at one of my first computers since so many mentioned them.

It says on the front, Lightning fast 10MHz CPU, 540Kb HD, enough to handle all your computer needs.

Heck, thinking of reel to reels, I still use my Sansui speakers that I bought about 25 yrs. ago, in Germany. Everybody that sees and hears them are amazed at their age.

Copyless, 25 year old Sansui's, they probably just "broke-in". Old Sansui stuff was awsome, and underrated.
Every now and then I play a DVD that doesn't look that good. I just make the picture 60" inches across instead of 90" on my projector, works great. Much of the improvement people see on these new T.V's is psychological. If you spent $7000 on a Plasma TV wouldn't it look great to you!! A lot of the early ones (2 years ago) are'nt even high definition anyway, as a lot of the new ones aren't either. I am not even worried about the new formats. When TV goes holographic, then I will start thinking about it.... Gotta go, "Beam me up Scotty!".

I love 'em, I have two SP-5500X 's and two SP-X6700 's. The 5500's have 1-15" woofer, 2-4 1/2" mids, 1- 2" tweeter, and 1-6" horn. The 6700's have 1-12"woofer, 1-4 1/2" mid, 2-1 1/2" tweeters, and 1-6" horn. And I agree that they were some of the best speakers you could buy in that time.

Most of the average dvd watchers I talked to today had no idea what Blu Ray even was or anything about it. I don't think it will be taking over Dvd's for a while when most people don't even have any knowledge of it!

Oh and the whole car thing, yeah it sucks, they don't want you to do any kind of maintenance or fix them without handing out some $$$$$$$$!!!
