Purchasing DVD-RW optical drive is all in the mind of the be-holder.

I am bias towards Plextor, that why I have three, SATA and IDE models

I am sure there are other DVD-RW optical drives just as good as Plextor, and cheaper, but that doesn't matter, because I have excellent results with Plextor.

You actually made me blush with that one! LOL!

I have 2 in my home PC and one in my work PC. I have a tendancy to buy 2 of everything (not cars or vacuums and the like). 2 gal of milk, 2 pairs of pants if they fit well - there is nothing I hate more than being unprepared

And to answer you, I am not as computer literate as the rest of you so if I find something that is cheap, I can install it myself, and actually works I will stick with it!

Oh man - am I getting old or is this the beginning of OCD?

I'm not the brightest when it comes to computer hardware (I can install and replace stuff, that's about it). Looking at the Newegg site I see 4 different NEC ND3550A drive models. What's the difference between the IDE and IDE/ATAPI models, and should I care?

I know the difference between OEM and retail, just curious to as why they would list the burners as IDE and IDE/ATAPI if they are the same . I'd like to add another drive to my system and if this seems like a good one I'll probably get one. Too bad they're out of the black ones.
