it's the ability to write a little bit of code to the first of the disk that identifies it as a dvd-rom instead of a burned disk, and then fools some older players into playing it

even more critical with dual layer burns

I have noticed that Home Dvd Recorders tend to use -R, I've yet to see one that records on +R

Well that refers to me. Please explain how to bitset.....Thanks Alan.

It makes the DVD+R actually behave like a commercially recorded movie.

How to bitset. The profile of a commercial dvd is Dvd-Rom, if your drive supports it & you booktype your Dvd+R to Dvd-Rom, VOILA.

I dont like +R at all I use only -R that way I dont have to deal with bitsettings at all.

Not to mention there are no +R for TY at least non that I have seen and I love the results of the TYG02 discs.

                  EDIT:

If bitsetting is to make the +R disc act like a -R how is bitsetting a +R better for compatability? That is the part I dont get. the way I see is just use -R

But that me and the brand of media that I like best.

Bitsetting changes disc to DVD-Rom not DVD-R.. Rom is equal to Factory pressed movie disc.. Ty also makes +R media..I use them quite frequently, but they do tend to be more expensive than the -R discs. probably because more people are willing to pay for them so they can bitset.

Ah that makes better sence now. I just have not seen TY in DVD+R, maybe I will pick up a pack of verbatim DVD+R and give that a try with the bitsetting and see if I can tell any difference.

                        Thanks,

I know a lot of people use +R discs I just thought that was due to the fact thats about all you see in the local stores, and actually at Sam's club the DVD+R discs are a lot cheaper then the DVD-R discs are so I though people were going more with +R to save money.

I didnt know that they +R TY were more expensive then again I dont see them on sale ever where I buy my -R's from.

I will have to do some googling.

Supermediastore always has the -R Ty priced lower than the +R .. If they were a little lower in price I would use more of them . I save my yudens for my good flicks and put the kiddies movies and junk flicks on Ricoh Japan 03s. I get decent quality with the Ricoh but not sure about the longevity. I also use the Sony D21s for what I consider so-so flicks.

if you go Sear BB CC biglot WW and search for Sony 1-8x + MIJ they are TY, they may still be available where you live ( if you dont have alot of CF live there )

Well, I have to agree with +R. I have had no issues with the +R but have had some skipping with -R.

I voted for Plus because I seem to get better results with them and they are mostly the ones on best discounts. I'm wondering if they are mostly the ones on discounts because more people have Minus burners. I have a Plus & Minus DVD burner, a Plus & Minus DVD recorder and a Minus DVD recorder.

What I find strange is why there's no Plus CDs.
