    Protesting one Statement

    @All

I got this PM from one of the mods

    Code:
You are not the first person to assert he has a "right to know". Put simply, you do not. This is no democracy; no FOI laws are around. It is a forum and it belongs to admin, not you.
To protest the above statement made by one of the mods, I will remain inactive on the Digital Digest forum for 1 week from today and this post is to make aware of this protest to every member here.

I will protest every such statement which goes against individual right to information no matter if its made here or in other places.

In fact this is the response I received for my statement on a public protest from the mod.

    Code:
It will be removed. The fact the forum is open to the public is irrelevant. What admin says goes.
I am specifically protesting against this statement and not against any individual/the reinstatement/information on any application/tool/software.

So I am not expecting that this post will remain here for long but that will infact affirm my rightness only.

Does no good to complain as the heads of state here have there reasons which I'm sure are quite legit and we are exspected to comply.

I have has posts pulled recently so you do have choices to either comply or use other forums.
I personally have discovered "ultimate dvdr forum"
which doesn't seem to be affected by the recent chain of events..

whenever people post anything anywhere i guess they want to be taken seriously, right?

as a consequence whatever ones posts should be of serious content or otherwise you cannot expect to be taken seriously when the content isnt serious or entirely true

since i personally try to take matters/users/postings/contents serious i must ask myself: what is vaioman talking about when saying he has/has had a bad experience with ME - and it must have been me among all other mods, since that's what your content says as you're yusing the plural with no exception at all.

so all in all we seem to be having a problem here indeed now as i must be either getting too old to remember what you're talking about i must have done to you or you're exaggerating here in a way i consider inappropriate

what do you suggest, vaioman, what can we do to solve this dilemma?

I think this is an issue that has been brewing for some time now, long before recent events, and mainly about moderators and the rules they enforce (in particularly, rule 6).

I am sorry you all feel this way, but in no way should you blame the moderators because they are only acting on my behalf. I think everyone should cool down a bit and stop blaming each other, the mods are not the enemies here (if you should get mad at anyone, it should be me).

Every forum has their own set of rules and members are asked to obide by them, even if these rules sometime (or actually most of the times) go against freedom of speech. A forum for a sports team might ban overly positive comments about other teams, for example. An Xbox 360 forum might close post talking about how good PS3s are.

The main issue here is that I run this forum and despite what you might think, I'm ultimately responsible for all your posts, attachments and everything that is on this website. If someone posts something illegal like pirated movies, then I'm responsible for distributing pirated movies, not the person who posted it, since I own the server and I operate it and I allow it to happen by not removing it or having rules against it. This is why this forum has had the "no referring to pirated content rule" (rule 6) for a few years, mainly to get the MPAA off our backs (it's not like they haven't tried to take sections of this site down in the past). The servers are all located in the US, I'm located in Australia - both of these countries have very strong digital copyright laws, and not having a rule 6 is just looking for trouble.

The rules are here for a reason. Most of the times, you probably won't understand why they are needed, but *they are needed*. I'm not doing this just because I like power and control (okay, maybe a little bit ), but rules protect the forum (and also protect the people who post in them - you post a movie torrent here, we'll get into trouble and so will you), and mods I think unfairly gets the blame for enforcing them.

Unlike a "dictatorship", you are free to move to another forum if you find life too restrictive here. But you might find that the other forums are not that much better...

I think the mods do a great job here. Nobody is being forced to read or post here. If someone cannot follow the rules, then maybe they should move on.
"Wanted in 14 counties of this state. The condemned is found guilty of the crimes of murder, armed robbery of citizens, state banks and post offices, the theft of sacred objects, arson in a state prison, purgery, bigamy, deserting his wife and children, inciting prostitution, kidnapping, extortion, receiving stolen goods, selling stolen goods, passing counterfeit money, and contrary to the laws of this state, the condemned is guilty of using marked cards...therefore according to the powers vested in us, we sentence the accused here before us Tuco Benedicto Pacifico Juan Ramirez also known as the Rat and any other aliases he may have to hang by the neck until dead."

I hope all the smoke clears someday, and we all will be enlightened..
Wishful thinking I am sure, but I will hope for a return to the old days...pre-April Fools day
And a clarification of really whats acceptable to talk about, and what we can/cannot help people with and in my case "helping" might be a stretch.
At least what I have seen, the Mods have mostly been as fair as possible, many times to fair.

                          My 2 cents

                            WOW...
Now that's what I call a widfire discussion...
                            and spread so fast too..........

                            Very impressed on 3 levels:
1] that administrator chimed in and didn't lock this down.
2] I actually agree with most of what he said..
3] I didn't get a post pulled this week [although there's still time]

so my last word on the subject etc..

                            guess I wasn;t finished...
