How to RIP now!!!

Hello everybody

I am new in this ripping thing and I already tryed to do a couple of DVDs with diferent softwares.

I used SmartRipper 2.14 to copy and crack the movie to my hard disk and then used It Rips 1.4 that worked once and then it gave me a fatal error when loading the info file. Now I'm using the FlasK MPEG 0.594 to convert the VOBs to AVI, but I can't read the AVI afterwords... and I don't see any place to say if I want the AVI to fit in one or two CDs...

I'm really at a loss here... I have 3 movies in VOB format in my hard disk and really wanted to convert them to AVI...

Other thing is: does anybody know any application that convertes to SUB file that SmartRipper 2.14 produces to a comum .sub file (in ascii format) to use with any player, lije BSPlayer or RadLight????

I really couyld use some help to select the right tools and what to do - I have worked with computers since I was about 15 (I'm 32 now) so I'm not a really newbie - just in this area.

I think that you should use gordianKnot or Dvdx!

I think that a lot people work here with gordianknot! ( I'm working with dvdx, gordianknot was a disaster by me )

but maybe it works with you, who knows??

Per the comments of forum members:

FlasKMPEG is problematical. Good results often, but many failures.

GordianKnot consistantly produces good results, but tends to be too difficult for the new user.

VirtualDub: As easy as it gets, but with lots of power. Other software may do more, but no one gets rid of this program once they've got it. Lots of tutorials on it's use are available on this site and elsewhere.

These and lots more are available in the software section on this site. Most are freeware.

keep in mind that gordianknot makes use of virtualdub for transcoding and thus enables EASIER (and better: end credits, dual-soundstream etc) two pass routines than using virtualdub manually!

That too, along with "silver girl". All quite nice.

I figured PhotoShop, but wanted to confirm. I had a bootleg of that one-time, but simply copied the CD to my hard drive. When I later went to install, no dice. I had the key, too. I'm figuring that there was some hidden track or something like that on the CD that was needed along with the key. Oh, well, I mostly do filtering of existing graphics anyways.

By the way, I noticed "silver girl" was a jpeg. How did you get the tranparency on the backgroud? I wasn't aware that could be done with jpegs.

you're absolutely right. there is no such thing as transparency for jpg.

thus i cheated

download the jpg and take a look at it.

i simply filled the background of the jpg with almost the similar background of the actual page

You did a good job then, because I looked for that but did not see it! Perhaps merely my old failing eyes?
