Installing DivX - dll's

Instead of using a DivX installer, if I paste the three .dll's into the windows directory will this allow me to play divx compressed avi's?

I only ask as my university has its network set up so that only an administrator can install programs which affect the windows directory.

I was going to boot to linux and place the files there manually.

I hope its alright to ask this...installing a DivX codec is hardly going to damage the pc network and I doubt DivX is what they had on their mind when installing such security.

If you search doom9.org, BSPLAYER (perhaps earlier versions) had the capability to play divx content, with only select dll's present.
